These terms cover using this website and working with us. They are a starting point written for a Canadian web design business and they are not legal advice. Anything specific to your project is set out in the written quote, and the quote wins if the two ever disagree.

Using this website

The content on this site, including the text, layout, design and the K1 Nova name and logo, belongs to K1 Nova. Client website screenshots are shown as examples of our work and the businesses shown own their own branding and content.

You are welcome to read, share and link to anything here. Please do not copy the site or present our work as your own.

Quotes and pricing

Prices shown on the website are starting points, not final quotes. Every project gets a written quote with a fixed scope and price before any work begins. A quote is valid for 30 days.

If you ask for work outside the agreed scope, we will tell you what it costs and wait for you to approve it before doing it.

Payment

Unless the quote says otherwise, projects are billed with a deposit before work starts and the balance due before the site goes live. Invoices are payable within the terms stated on the invoice.

A website stays on our staging environment until the final invoice is paid.

What we need from you

Projects move at the speed of the information we get. To build your site we generally need your service details, any photos you want used, your contact details and your feedback at the review stage.

You are responsible for making sure any text, images or logos you send us are yours to use. If a project stalls for a long stretch waiting on content, we may need to reschedule it.

Revisions

The review stage is where changes happen, and the quote sets out how many rounds are included. Further rounds, or changes that alter the agreed scope, are quoted separately.

Ownership

Once the project is paid in full, the finished website and its content are yours. You own your domain name. Third party components such as fonts, plugins or stock images remain under their own licences, and we will tell you if any of those apply to your project.

We keep the right to show the finished site as an example of our work unless you ask us not to.

Hosting, domains and third party services

Domain registration, hosting and any paid third party services are billed by those providers, not by us. We can set them up on your behalf and explain what each one costs. Their uptime, pricing and terms are theirs, not ours.

Ongoing work

Updates after launch are quoted as needed. There is no compulsory monthly plan, and you can stop asking for updates at any time without a cancellation fee.

Cancellation

You can cancel a project at any point. Work completed up to that point is payable, and any deposit covers that work. If we cannot complete a project for our own reasons, we will refund anything paid for work not delivered.

SEO and results

We build the technical and content foundation that gives a website a fair chance in search. We do not guarantee search rankings, traffic volumes, leads or sales, because those depend on factors outside anyone's control including competition, search engine changes and your own market. Any statement we make about SEO is about the work performed, not a promised outcome.

Liability

We take care with our work, but we cannot accept liability for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits or lost business. Our total liability on any project is limited to the amount you paid us for that project.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in effect when your quote was accepted is the one that applies to your project.
